Keeping tradition alive
Japan’s national sport of sumo has been around, in its current form, since the 18th century but has a much longer history. The matches are tough and the rules are simple. Force your opponent out of the ring or cause him to touch the ground with any part of his body other than the soles of his feet, and you will be declared the victor.
We recently were lucky enough to get permission to photograph a kids sumo practice. The coach works hard to make sure the next generation of wrestlers are there to continue on the tradition. You can see all the photos and video as well as license them through Getty Images
